Veronicah joined the Women Like Us Center in February of 2019.  She didn’t know anything about sewing and/or sewing machines.  As she told us, she didn’t even know how to thread a needle.  Most recently she graduated from 10 months of sewing training at the center and now can make skirts, blouses, purses and more. The women at the Women Like Us Center are living at the edge and or in the Nakuru Kenya slums.  Their days were long.  Their hopes were low.  Their resources practically nil. Now their lives are changing. Not only with skills of sewing, farming and poultry raising, but through the wages they are now able to earn. It takes a village to bring these women, their families and their communities to a level of self-esteem and self-worth that can bring them better lives.  And when they contribute, they are treated better by their husbands. Veronicah is on her way…we’re so proud of her accomplishments.  And because of her new skills she is able to get a job as a domestic, start her own business and get employment at a local uniform company. Meet Veronicah in Kenya.  Travel with us to the center in June 2020. Humanitarian Travel Women Like Us Center

Hear Her Song- Telling Women’s Stories through Song https://womenlikeusfoundation.org/2019/09/hear-her-song-telling-womens-stories-through-song/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=hear-her-song-telling-womens-stories-through-song https://womenlikeusfoundation.org/2019/09/hear-her-song-telling-womens-stories-through-song/#respond Mon, 30 Sep 2019 16:17:08 +0000 https://womenlikeusfoundation.org/?p=2992 Women Like Us Foundation is thrilled to support and be a part of this impactful and important initiative as participant and sponsor. The Canales Project’s Hear Her Song has been producing music since 2017, and continue to aim to create a difference through the arts. Their next venture is the New York City Production Premiere at Joe’s Pub at The Public Theater, on Oct. 14. As a program derived from the work of the Canales Project, the Hear Her Song campaign uses music to celebrate the astonishing work of brilliant women. In two years, an all female-team of 65 artists has created 40 songs in tribute to 35 female leaders. The organization reaches out to women internationally in order to honor a variety of achievements and hard work. Canales Project founder and director, Carla Canales, believes music is a beautiful way of appreciating the different languages that have built accomplished women. “One of the great gifts of singing is that it gives us the opportunity to use both language and music,” Canales said in a documentary about the project. “In crafting this project, the language was an essential part of telling the story.” When the Hear Her Song project was first established in 2017, it partnered with other organizations to discover women that deserved tribute. From then on, the campaign examined statements from each woman, to fully understand each individual journey in its own original words. Our own CEO and President of Women Like Us Foundation, Linda Rendleman, was honored through Hear Her Song for the inaugural production in 2017 and we are proud for her to be one of the women selected for her personal story of perseverance and leadership.  Says Linda, “The Canales Project Hear Her Song is a beautiful, artistic and powerful way to tell women’s stories that motivate and inspire us to understand one another and come together as women for change through love and passion.  I feel blessed to be a part and hope to be in New York City in October for the next premiere.” Get Tickets and More Details!
